After Arlong has Nezumi steal the money Nami saved up to purchase Cocoyasi Village's freedom, she agrees to save up the money again from scratch. However, the villagers have had enough, and rise up against Arlong despite Nami's pleas. Luffy then comes upon Nami, and she breaks down, asking for his help to defeat Arlong. Luffy and the Straw Hats readily oblige, and Luffy breaks into Arlong Park as he confronts Arlong. Tears On the Marine ship docked outside Cocoyasi Village, Nezumi gleefully examines the money he stole from Nami, laughing at her stupidity to work for Arlong for her freedom this long. Meanwhile, Nami confronts Arlong in Arlong Park over her money being stolen, and Arlong acts as though Nezumi stealing it was out of his control, saying Nami will just have to start saving 100,000,000 Beli again from scratch. Nojiko tells the Straw Hats of Nami's burden in saving Cocoyasi Village. She tells them that Nami had spent the last eight years trying to raise 100,000,000 Beli so that she could buy the village's and her own freedom from Arlong. Meanwhile, the Marine Captain of the 16th Branch, Nezumi, arrives at Cocoyasi Village to steal all the money that Nami had earned over the years. Nami realizes that the Marines coming after her money was actually Arlong's doing, so she confronts him, saying he broke their agreement. Arlong laughs and grabs Nami by the mouth, saying he technically never broke their agreement. A Crime is a Crime Nojiko continues to tell the Straw Hats the story of why Nami joined the Arlong Pirates. One day, Nami was caught by a local policeman, Genzo, when she attempted to steal a book. She explained they were poor and could not afford to buy the navigation book she desired. She needed the book to accomplish her dream, to travel around the world. Genzo took pity upon the young girl and bought the book for her. Upon returning her to Bell-mère, Genzo demanded she be taught respect. Bell-mere stood up for the girl and told him she'd pay him back with love when she could. As she shut the door, she explained that Nami should have asked for the book. Bell-mère would have purchased it for her. With the book, Nami was soon able to draw her first map of their island. Nami tells the Straw Hat Pirates to leave the island and stay away from Arlong. She tells Luffy that they are not her crewmates and that she never saw them as such. Luffy decides to go to sleep on the spot, which infuriates her. Meanwhile, Usopp is revealed to be alive and that Nami faked his death in order to save him from being killed by Arlong. Back at Luffy's group, Nojiko appears and begins to tell the crew the story of Nami's past on the condition that they leave after she is finished. Meanwhile, the 16th Branch of the Marines, along with their captain, Nezumi, arrive at the village. Nezumi asks Genzo to guide them to Nami's house. Sleep When Luffy refers to Nami as his crewmate, she tells him that he is no more than a nuisance. She says that she only stayed with them because of their money. Luffy and Sanji arrive on Nami's home island. The two of them regroup with Zoro and Johnny. Meanwhile, the Arlong Pirates show off their incredible power by easily destroying a Marine ship led by Commodore Pudding Pudding. Of Sea Maps and Fish-Men The sea monster, Momoo, pulls Sanji and Luffy's boat at full speed onto the shore. Luffy and Sanji are then sent flying into the sky.
