Chapter 77

Nami's childhood, love is more important than blood.

The First Step Toward a Dream

8 years ago, a 10-year-old Nami lived with her adoptive sister Nojiko and their adoptive mother Bell-mère who was raised them on an orange farm. One day, Nami was caught by a local policeman, Genzo, when she attempted to steal a book. She explained they were poor and could not afford to buy the navigation book she desired. She needed the book to accomplish her dream, to travel around the world. Genzo took pity upon the young girl and bought the book for her. Upon returning her to Bell-mère, Genzo demanded she be taught respect. Bell-mere stood up for the girl and told him she'd pay him back with love when she could. As she shut the door, she explained that Nami should have asked for the book. Bell-mère would have purchased it for her. With the book, Nami was soon able to draw her first map of their island.

One night, while Bell-mère gave Nami an old dress of Nojiko's. Nami complained that it was a hand me down and how the three of them were not blood related. She yelled in a fit how she wished she had been adopted by a family with more money. Angry, Bell-mère slapped her and told Nami that she could leave the house and live the life she wanted.

Nami took refuge in Genzo's house. He explains to her how Bell-mère found her and Nojiko. Bell-mère served in a war as a Marine, and was heavily wounded during a battle, when she returned with the two little girls who they had lost their parents. She collapsed and in her potentially final breath, she begged for her village members to save the children. As she looked down at the infant Nami, Nami could only smile as she was unaware of her surroundings and only knew joy.

In the present, upon hearing the story Nami came to realize that the love bond between the three of them was stronger than blood. She returned with Nojiko who had been searching for her.

However at the same time, pirates accosted the island. Sea-pirate Arlong and his fish-men had arrived and they declared that the land now belonged to them.

Mission 61

The cloudy skies over Eden Academy rumble as a stout woman walks through the school. Upon noticing a student smoking behind a pillar, she gestures to a man to hand her a box. With a loud clap of thunder, the student suddenly faints to the ground with a Tonitrus Bolt on his forehead as the woman walks away.

In Cecile Hall's classroom, Henry Henderson berates the student for the recent increase in tardiness and late homework assignments, eyeing Anya Forger in particular. As Anya and Becky Blackbell leave the classroom, they are interrupted by Damian Desmond, who mocks Anya's tardiness and bets she will be the first to be expelled for getting eight bolts. Becky defends Anya and begins to bicker with Emile Elman and Ewen Egeburg, the latter two declaring that the three of them will run through the school in their underpants if Damian gets a Tonitrus Bolt.

Before Damian can rebuke them, Bill Watkins runs towards them, warning them to run away before it is too late. Outside, a pair of messily dressed older students complain about the noisy first-years. The woman from earlier approaches behind them and reaches into a box filled with Tonitrus Bolts before penalizing the boys for their unkempt uniforms, uncouth speech, and conspiring to commit acts of violence, placing Tonitrus Bolts on their foreheads. The woman turns and poses, calling her move "Tonitrus Strike." The assistant compliments Donna Schlag on her bestowal of Tonitrus Bolts as Donna disparages the students of Murdoch Swan's Cline Hall. Henry greets Donna on her return as he looks at the fainted students. Donna smirks at Henry as she suggests paying his students a visit next and walks away.

Back in the hallway, Bill is explaining Donna's prior absence and her fearsome reputation for handing out Tonitrus Bolts for any infraction, rumored to have single-handedly expelled over a hundred students. He warns them to run away as his classroom has already fallen victim to "Old Lady Tonitrus" and faints. Before the students can escape, Donna is already in front of them and introduces herself, instructing them to line up and prepare for a bag inspection. In the classroom, Donna checks the students' bags, giving out Tonitrus Bolts for snacks and playing cards she finds in them. To Anya's horror, she realizes Donna is gleefully having fun with punishing the students. Damian is relaxed since he and his friends did not bring anything prohibited. However, Donna punishes a student with a Tonitrus for not bringing a handkerchief.

She recounts the tale of an honor student who wiped his hands on his pants as he forgot to bring his handkerchief, earning him the nickname of "Mr. Pee Pants" and eventually getting himself expelled for being a troublemaker. The students quickly check for their handkerchiefs, including Damian, who is dismayed to find that he did not bring his handkerchief. He recalls the promise they made earlier to run around the school in their underpants and thinks about asking Ewen for his handkerchief but is unable to sacrifice his friend. Anya initially takes some joy in Damian's distress, but panics when he thinks he will not be able to face his father if he gets a Tonitrus Bolt. Damian tries to ask Ewen, but he is too late.

Anya quickly offers her handkerchief to Damian, reassuring him that she always brings two. Donna notices the "A" monogrammed on the borrowed handkerchief when she checks Damian, but he excuses it by claiming it is the "A" in his name. Next, Anya confidently goes forward but quickly realizes she did not bring a second handkerchief, and Donna gives her a Tonitrus. Seeing Anya cry, Damian feels conflicted and tries to admit the truth, but Anya sees that Donna intends to give them two bolts each if she finds out they tricked her and quickly stops him. After the bag inspection, Damian tries to express his gratitude in a roundabout manner. Anya does not fully understand but is happy that she has gotten closer to Damian despite her new Tonitrus.

At home, Anya tells Loid Forger that they have gotten closer, he gets happy to hear it but quickly notices the Tonitrus on Anya's chest and faints.

Nut

Nut, the goddess of the nighttime sky, is known to those who seek her protection by many names. To some, she is She Who Protects, for it is her task to guard against any who might interfere with the rising of the sun. To others, she is Coverer of the Sky, for she is the night and her body is the stars. But to most, she is simply the Mistress of All, for it was said to be Nut who bore the first gods and brought them into the world.

Whatever her title, Nut is a protector of the innocent, both in life and the afterlife. As a mother cares for her children, so too does she care for the mortals who live and thrive beneath her stars. The dead ask her to intercede on their behalf, and she nourishes them with food and drink before they make their final journey into the afterlife. She also ensures that the sun and moon make their journeys uninterrupted, and that the ordered cosmos is kept safe from the sea of chaos that threatens to engulf it.

She is mother of Osiris and Set, and guardian of Ra. She is wife of Geb, though Ra deemed their union unfit and sent Shu, God of the Wind, to separate them eternally. But now that separation might be coming to an early end.

The world is changing, and the gods change with it. The old stories fade, and new ones are written. Who is to say what the future holds for Nut?

All she knows is that she is eager to find out.

Highlord of the Tal'darim

Alarak was born into the brutal and warlike society of the Tal'darim, a sect of the Protoss race. Brutal and canny, Alarak began to rise dramatically through his society's Chain of Ascension through trickery and guile, killing hundreds of Tal'darim by silently manipulating their ritual combat of Rak'Shir. This rocketed him up to Fourth Ascendant, the fifth highest rank in his society. However, First Ascendant Nuroka revealed to Alarak that he had discovered their god, the fallen Xel'Naga Amon, had betrayed them and sought their demise, and that Alarak needed to aid him in removing their Highlord Ma'lash from power. Instead Alarak betrayed Nuroka during the battle, rising to First Ascendant, but he never forgot that Amon's betrayal. He just needed allies...

During the End War, Alarak was tasked to command the Tal'darim's Death Fleet in their extermination of all who opposed Amon, but found that the Daelaam, under Artanis, had outfoxed him. Seeing Artanis as a useful tool, Alarak confronted the Daelaam during a battle and aided them in rescuing Artanis from a trap set by Amon. Alarak then made Artanis a deal: if he helped Alarak usurp Ma'lash and become Highlord, Alarak would keep the Tal'darim out of the war against Amon. Artanis agreed, and aided Alarak in defeating Ma'lash in Rak'Shir combat, allowing him to claim the Tal'darim as his own. Alarak was now Highlord.

Uncharacteristically, Alarak modified their deal and agreed to ally with Artanis to defeat Amon. The combined protoss force drove Amon from their homeworld of Aiur, and later dogged him into the Void, where alongside the forces of Sarah Kerrigan and Jim Raynor, they were able to kill the fallen Xel'Naga once and for all. In the aftermath, Alarak refused Artanis's offer to join the new Protoss government on Aiur, but did allow any member of the Tal'darim one chance to stay. He then set out to find a new homeworld for the Tal'darim.

Years later, an outpost of Alarak's came under attack by the Terran group the Defenders of Man, hoping to institute Tal'darim retaliation against the Dominion to weaken the rule of Emperor Valerian Mengsk. After a Tal'darim retaliatory strike was repelled by Agent Nova Terra in order to save civilians, Alarak confronted Nova, making an offer to help her recover her memories erased by the Defenders using a gas named terrazine if she lead him to the Defenders' leadership. The bargain was struck, and Alarak lead her to the gas, allowing her to uncover the leadership of the group. But as Nova had the leader, General Carolina Davis, in custody, Alarak unleashed the Death Fleet on her world of Vardona, killing Defender of Man, Dominion soldier and civilian alike. Nova rallied the terran forces of the planet and defeated Alarak's Tal'darim. Alarak saw this as a betrayal of their bargain, and warned Nova that she had made a terrible enemy before departing Dominion space.

Bossy Boots

As the episode begins at the Krusty Krab, Mr. Krabs is holding a meeting with his employees, informing them that his daughter Pearl is going to be working at the Krusty Krab during her summer vacation and that she has lots of new ideas to improve the restaurant. Squidward does not like the idea of being told what to do by a teenager, and he and SpongeBob agree to stand up to her to protect their jobs.

Pearl soon arrives and SpongeBob's resolution quickly crumbles, adoring the flamboyant new uniform Pearl gives them. After exchanging many ideas, Pearl and SpongeBob agree to turn the Krusty Krab into the "Kuddly Krab," and re-purpose the restaurant into a hip café, all with Mr. Krabs' blessing.

Squidward remains the only holdout and shakes the newly designed sign in frustration. Two passersby are surprised the Krusty Krab is seemingly gone and, thinking Squidward is a woman, ask him where a place to eat is. Enraged, Squidward quits on the spot and furiously rips off his costume rendering him completely naked, only for a police officer to write him up for indecent exposure and stick the ticket on him as a loincloth.

The Kuddly Krab quickly becomes a hit with the teenage crowd. SpongeBob is told to make a salad, which he has never heard of, so he makes a Krabby Patty and shows it to Pearl. Disgusted, she tells him to take off the buns and the patty, leaving only tomatoes and lettuce. Upon returning to the kitchen, SpongeBob is horrified to see that his stove is gone. Pearl explains to him that Krabby Patties are no longer "hip," and that they now serve only tea and salad. SpongeBob is then given a humiliating mascot costume to wear out front, which finally drives him to complain to Mr. Krabs about what Pearl has done.

Despite putting on a brave face, Mr. Krabs fully agrees with SpongeBob's complaints and admits that all the renovations that Pearl has done to the restaurant are causing them to lose money. But for as much as Mr. Krabs knows that Pearl has got to go, he can't bring himself to fire his own daughter—instead, he makes SpongeBob be the one to fire her. SpongeBob then calls Pearl into the kitchen, dreading what he has to do. Before he can even say anything, however, Pearl breaks down crying and reveals to SpongeBob that she's really been trying to get herself fired since the beginning as it turns out she hates working at the restaurant, only took the job and pretended to like it to please her dad and doesn't want to risk disappointing him by quitting. After hearing all this, SpongeBob comes up with a plan to stage Pearl being fired outside of her dad's office.

As Mr. Krabs listens in to the exchange, he debates with himself whether he should allow it to happen. The sight of his empty safe with a spider web finally prompts him to yell to SpongeBob to get on with it, but with the words, "Pearl, you're fired," the strain on Mr. Krabs' heart knocks him out cold. Pearl thanks SpongeBob for letting her go and kisses him on the cheek before dashing off to the mall with her friends.

SpongeBob enters Mr. Krabs' office to report his success, only to find him passed out on the floor. After being revived with a $20-bill, Mr. Krabs laments what's been done to Pearl—but SpongeBob assures his boss that Pearl's fine, claiming that she's off to bigger and better things. While he's glad that the situation with his daughter is resolved, Mr. Krabs still wonders how he'll get his money back for all of Kuddly Krabs' decorations/merchandise. SpongeBob then buys all of it, costing him one year's salary and enjoys using all of this stuff, while Gary is saddened as the episode ends.
