Chapter 81

After Arlong has Nezumi steal the money Nami saved up to purchase Cocoyasi Village's freedom, she agrees to save up the money again from scratch. However, the villagers have had enough, and rise up against Arlong despite Nami's pleas. Luffy then comes upon Nami, and she breaks down, asking for his help to defeat Arlong. Luffy and the Straw Hats readily oblige, and Luffy breaks into Arlong Park as he confronts Arlong. Tears On the Marine ship docked outside Cocoyasi Village, Nezumi gleefully examines the money he stole from Nami, laughing at her stupidity to work for Arlong for her freedom this long. Chapter 80

Nojiko tells the Straw Hats of Nami's burden in saving Cocoyasi Village. She tells them that Nami had spent the last eight years trying to raise 100,000,000 Beli so that she could buy the village's and her own freedom from Arlong. Meanwhile, the Marine Captain of the 16th Branch, Nezumi, arrives at Cocoyasi Village to steal all the money that Nami had earned over the years. Nami realizes that the Marines coming after her money was actually Arlong's doing, so she confronts him, saying he broke their agreement. Arlong laughs and grabs Nami by the mouth, saying he technically never broke their agreement. Chapter 79

After being kidnapped, Nami became a member of Arlong's crew. To Live After Bell-mère's death, Nami was kidnapped when Arlong discovered her ability for drawing maps. All the villagers decided to fight to take her back, but she suddenly came back by herself, revealing that she was now part of Arlong's crew. She even showed that she could earn all the money she wanted. Disgusted by this selfish behavior, the villagers rejected her. But when Nojiko went to her mother's grave, Nami was already sitting there. She explained to her sister that in order to accomplish their mother's last wish and live, they could not rebel against Arlong who was too strong for them. Chapter 78

10 years ago, Arlong took a tribute from every adult and child in Cocoyasi Village as he declared it his property. Bell-mère could not pay for her and her two adoptive daughters. She sacrificed herself instead of admitting that the little girls were not related to her. Chapter 77

Nami's childhood, love is more important than blood. The First Step Toward a Dream 8 years ago, a 10-year-old Nami lived with her adoptive sister Nojiko and their adoptive mother Bell-mère who was raised them on an orange farm. Chapter 76

Nami tells the Straw Hat Pirates to leave the island and stay away from Arlong. She tells Luffy that they are not her crewmates and that she never saw them as such. Luffy decides to go to sleep on the spot, which infuriates her. Meanwhile, Usopp is revealed to be alive and that Nami faked his death in order to save him from being killed by Arlong. Back at Luffy's group, Nojiko appears and begins to tell the crew the story of Nami's past on the condition that they leave after she is finished.
