Chapter 71

Usopp discovers Nami's family and what her true intentions were when joining the Straw Hats. Zoro is captured by Arlong in Arlong Park and discovers that Nami has been working with Arlong from day one.

Lords of All Creation

When Nojiko tells Usopp that the house he is currently in is the house where Nami lived as a child as well as informing him that they are adopted sisters and telling him that their "mother" is dead. Usopp says that Nami betrayed her village since she joined Arlong Pirates, who control her hometown, Cocoyasi Village. Nojiko questions Usopp's business with Nami. Usopp replies that he has some things to think about due to all the info he has received. Additionally, he says that all she wanted from the crew was for the treasure and asks why she saved his village and looked happy with them. Nojiko questions Nami being happy and then restates that he shouldn't start anything with the Arlong Pirates since it will lead to death. Usopp replies that he will just leave since he has found the ship. After Nojiko points out the Going Merry, Usopp realizes that they landed near Cocoyasi Village and Usopp begins to panic. Nojiko asks what's wrong and Usopp replies that he remembered that one of his crewmates was captured by the fish-men and is in a critical condition.

Indeed, Zoro has been taken to Arlong Park where he is questioned by Arlong. Zoro insults Arlong by calling him a half-fish mutant and restates that he is looking for a girl. Arlong says he will forgive Zoro once for the insult and says fish-men are superior to humans. Shortly after, Nami appears much to Zoro's surprise seeing her aligned with Arlong. Arlong says she is an exception to the human race and informs him that she is the Arlong Pirates' cartographer. Zoro questions why Nami would side with Arlong. Arlong questions if they know each other. Nami replies that he was just another victim. Then Zoro asks Nami if this is her "true self" and she answers, "yes" and that she had been aligned with Arlong all along. After Nami's statement, Arlong laughs and calls her a "cold-blooded witch" who only wants money. Nami hides her scowl upon hearing Arlong make such a statement. Zoro notices this and jumps into the pool, shocking everyone. Nami dive into the water and saves Zoro. After the rescue, Nami asks what he was doing to which Zoro remarks that he should be asking that question to her and says she shouldn't be acting tough. Nami replies that she does not want him involved in this anymore. Afterwards, Nami tells the fish-man to lock Zoro up and she will kill him later. Shortly after, a fish-man approaches Arlong saying that a longed nose human got away. Arlong says that the human is probably in Cocoyasi Village and says he has business to attend to their anyway.

In Cocoyasi Village, the villagers hear of Arlong's coming and wonder what business he has since he already collected the tribute. Genzo answers by saying that Arlong found his weapons. Arlong arrives and begins questioning Genzo on the possession of weapons. Genzo answers that it is a hobby to collect weapons. Arlong says he cannot possess any weapons since all they do is bring violence. A frightened Usopp says he is not human. Nojiko replies that he is a fish-man, and says that Nami must be at Arlong Park since she is not with Arlong. Arlong threatens Genzo by stating back when he destroyed Gosa Village due to no one paying tributes. Nojiko explains to Usopp that a tribute is the money they pay every month in order for them live under Arlong's protection. If one person does not pay in the village, the entire village is destroyed. Before leaving, Arlong tells the town to work hard for money since tribute time is approaching.

Back at Arlong Park, Nami rushes Zoro to escape before Arlong's return.

Mission 56

Princess Lorelei has arrived at the resort island. After jumping rashly out of excitement, Loid warns Anya to be cautious. While walking away from the cruise ship, he becomes unnerved as he briefly spots SSS agents from a distance.

The two later unite with Yor, who received Anya's message the day before and was able to take the whole day off. Loid notices Yor's swollen face, and she lies about her previous mission. With her work done, the Forgers spend the rest of the day touring the island to enjoy the resort accommodations and activities: walking around town, zip-lining, riding a tandem bike, cave-exploring, riding horses and a swing, and sightseeing. As Anya approaches a flock of sheep and compares them to Bond, Yor comments that she is at peace and wishes that it would last forever. Loid agrees, but he silently thinks otherwise.

Anya intervenes in their exchange and points at a scuba-diving poster, insisting that she wants to dive in the ocean and look at the fish next. Yor internally worries about wearing a bikini at the risk of exposing her new chest wound, which makes Anya change her mind. To her luck, Yor finds a rental poster for swimwear and decides to wear a rash guard bathing suit instead. She agrees to scuba-dive with Anya and assures her that there will not be any sharks present in the water.

The Forgers scuba-dive, then surf soon afterward. Clutching a surfboard, Anya readies herself to be pushed into a wave by Yor, but gets propelled with force as Yor forgets to hold back her strength. She is taken by the wave and launched in the air, but Loid quickly comes to her rescue. Once the wave has passed, Anya asks Loid to redo it, but gets strictly rejected. Meanwhile, Yor panics and apologizes for the mishap.

Now back in town, Anya is delighted that they had fun the entire day. Suddenly, Yor is hit with the exhaustion from the night before, and she collapses into Loid, sending her into a deep sleep. Anya becomes tired as well, and she falls asleep like Yor. With the two girls knocked out in his arms, Loid is shocked to witness Yor fall asleep in public, noting that it is unexpected of her to do so. He guesses that work had been rough for her, and he smiles at her effort to still spend the day with them. He then walks back to the cruise ship.

After the cruise, the Forgers come back home. Anya reunites with a crying Bond while Loid hands Franky, who seems to be complaining, a gift bag. Afterward, they commune in the living room over coffee.

At WISE's hideout, Sylvia informs Loid that numerous passengers aboard the Princess Lorelei have gone missing and were originally traveling with fake passports. Loid affirms his suspicions and suspects that their goal was to create conflict between Westalis and Ostania. However, the SSS suspects that a third party was involved, and that they will most likely cover the issue to protect their reputation. Sylvia orders Loid to watch out for Ostania's extremist movements at the risk of sabotaging Operation Strix. As Loid walks away, Sylvia asks how he enjoyed his vacation on the cruise. He tiredly responds that it was more exhausting than his previous missions, to Sylvia's amusement.

Back at home, Yor, Anya and Bond sleep soundly in the living room, with Anya having drawn a picture of her and her parents' cruise adventure.

Janus

Many fear change. Venturing into the unknown. Deviating from a path of safety and certainty into something unexpected. But life is change; a journey through doorways both physical and emotional, with every moment a passage to something new, and it is Janus, God of Portals and Transitions that governs this.

Bearing two faces, Janus is ever looking to the future and to the past, knowing both but controlling neither. He is only the in-between, found in the changing of seasons, at the birth of a child, at the entrances to the temple and the tavern. For this reason the Romans named the first month after him: January – a portal between the old year and the new.

Yet the Roman emperors also attribute a strange tradition to Janus. At each end of his temple stand massive doors. In times of peace, these doors are closed, but in times of war, flung open. As Rome rose to power, rarely were these doors shut, but almost four hundred years of peace have clothed Rome since then and the temple has grown dusty with absence. These days, however, the doors are open once more. It seems war has returned, and the greatest of changes are upon us.

Dark Prelate

Zeratul is a Dark Templar, a renowned psionic warrior and assassin whose forbears were exiled from the protoss homeworld of Aiur over a thousand years ago. The dark templar refused to submerge themselves in the communal protoss mind link, the Khala, preferring instead to strive as individuals. Zeratul holds the rank of prelate and is probably best known for his role in ensuring the survival of the protoss since the zerg threat first became apparent.

It was Zeratul who overcame the prejudices of Executor Tassadar when they met on Char and thus began to heal the rift between the Aiur protoss and the dark templar. It was Zeratul who was the first to slay a zerg cerebrate although the cerebrates had been thought immortal. Most of all it was Zeratul who returned to Aiur with Tassadar and set into motion the events that would rejoin the sundered halves of the protoss race and overthrow the oppressive rulership of the Conclave.

Zeratul went on to fight alongside Tassadar to bring about the destruction of the zerg Overmind during the invasion of Aiur, and then helped the protoss evacuate the planet as it continued to be overrun by the zerg. When the Swarm followed the refugees to the dark templar world of Shakuras, Zeratul helped recover the Khalis and Uraj crystals, which allowed the protoss to activate the xel’naga temple there and wipe out the invaders. Later, when the dark archon Ulrezaj threatened to destroy the Aiur protoss “violating” Shakuras, Zeratul was instrumental in thwarting Ulrezaj’s schemes.

But Zeratul also carries many terrible burdens. In the act of slaying the cerebrate Zasz, Zeratul became temporarily linked with the Overmind. Zeratul came to know much about the Overmind’s plans, but the zerg leader gleaned the location of Aiur itself from Zeratul’s mind, and so the seeds of the planet’s devastation were sown. Furthermore, Zeratul has a long and bitter history with the Queen of Blades, having been manipulated and betrayed by her more than once as she destroyed the remaining zerg cerebrates in order to secure her control over the Swarm after the Overmind’s death.

As part of her schemes, the Queen of Blades took control of the beloved protoss matriarch Raszagal. Zeratul later rescued the matriarch, but he found her to be irrevocably corrupted. Sorrowfully he took the matriarch’s life to spare her from continuing as the plaything of the Queen of Blades. With her mind freed by the deathblow, Raszagal thanked him and named him as leader of the dark templar. Such an honor Zeratul felt unfit to take, his soul too scarred by his experiences.

For the moment he focused on a more immediate concern: contacting any other nearby protoss who had survived the Queen of Blades’ treachery. Tracking protoss power signatures to an obscure moon, he hoped to reunite with his comrades and return to Shakuras with them in order to plan for the future. Instead of comrades, however, he found a former agent of the Queen of Blades – the enigmatic Samir Duran – engaged in breeding protoss/zerg hybrid creatures. Although Zeratul destroyed the facility, Duran claimed that it was merely one of many. Duran also revealed that he had been known by many names over the millennia and that he was not serving the Queen of Blades, but rather a “far greater power.” Deeply troubled by what he had seen, Zeratul went into self-imposed exile with only a handful of followers at his side. He continued to seek answers for what manner of being Duran truly was, and what dark future he was working toward. Initially distraught with his lack of progress, the urging of a terran archeologist Jake Ramsey and the protoss preserver Zamara pushed him toward uncovering the truth.

Through his quest, Zeratul uncovered a xel'naga prophecy, commands brought through time and space to help in a coming war against a fallen xel'naga named Amon. At the site of the dead Overmind, Zeratul received a vision from a xel'naga in the guise of the spirit that appeared as Tassadar, which required the survival of the one he hated most: Sarah Kerrigan. Abhorred, but knowing the universe was at stake, Zeratul delivered his knowledge of the prophecy to his old terran comrade Jim Raynor, pleading with him not to kill her for the sake of the universe. Such an act saved Kerrigan when Raynor purified her of her infestation, and Zeratul would later guide her to the zerg's birthworld of Zerus, seeing to turn her into primal zerg to give her the power she needed to face Amon without the taint of a race manipulated by him. With her guided, Zeratul then sought to find how the protoss fit into the grand scheme.

Zeratul sought answers from Duran's old terran bases (as he had been banished to the Void by Kerrigan), and with the aid of Praetor Talis, rescued protoss prisoners who were able to point them to the temple Amon was resurrected at. Zeratul and Talis attacked the planet and infiltrated the temple, where the Tassadar spirit again spoke to Zeratul, telling him that the Keystone, the relic the purified Kerrigan of her infestation, would usher them unto hope. Zeratul escaped the temple, though Talis gave her life in the process, and delivered the message to Artanis, though too late: Artanis had begun the reclamation of their homeworld of Aiur. However, the attack went awry as Amon's protoss/zerg hybrid were found to be commanding the feral zerg the infested the planet. Artanis then took Zeratul's warnings seriously, and prepared to fight the Keystone, when Amon siezed control of all protoss bound to the mind link of the Khala. Zeratul fought to sever Artanis from Amon's control, and after a clash of blades Zeratul successfully severd Artanis's nerve cord, but not before an Amon-posessed Artanis struck a killing blow on Zeratul. In his dying moments, Zeratul entrusted Artanis with the fight against Amon, a fight Artanis would win. The protoss would drive Amon back into the Void, and years later, a joint force would slay him once and for all. Zeratul's hunt for the truth would avert the end of creation, and put an end to the schemes of a mad god.

Artanis placed the Zeratul's warp blade on a lone grave on their reclaimed homeworld of Aiur, promising to create the united protoss civilization they had envisioned.

Neptune's Spatula

The opening of the episode shows SpongeBob and Patrick visiting the Fry Cook Museum, where they see a greasy griddle with a golden spatula embedded in the grease. On it is a plaque, which reads "Many have tried to pull this spatula out of this ancient grease, but all have failed." Larry the Lobster then attempts to pull it out but fails. SpongeBob then reads "Only a fry cook who's worthy of King Neptune himself can wield the golden spatula." SpongeBob, while posing for a photo, accidentally and effortlessly pulls it out while pointing out the menu section to a woman, who in response to the dark clouds appearing in the museum says, "Holy smokes!" in a man's voice. It turns out she meant it in a literal sense because then King Neptune appears in a gust of smoke.

Neptune asks who pulled out the spatula, and everyone says it was SpongeBob. King Neptune refuses to believe this because he doesn't look like the fry cook he was thinking of and asks for proof. Patrick shows him the photograph he took, but Neptune still refuses to consider such a lowly being as SpongeBob worthy to hold the golden spatula. He challenges SpongeBob to a patty-making competition, The Ultimate Cookoff. If SpongeBob wins, he will stay at Atlantis forever and become a god. If he loses, he has to give up fry cooking forever. Patrick continually jeers to Neptune about SpongeBob's skills and says that he could complete up to 500 challenges. He is repeatedly zapped by Neptune three times until all that is left of him is a burnt mark on the floor. SpongeBob asks Neptune to restore Patrick, and he does so (only with Patrick's face now on his rear end).

In the Poseidome, King Neptune makes 1,000 Krabby Patties, in the time it takes SpongeBob to make just one, winning the challenge. However, when Neptune shares his patties with the audience, they think that they taste awful. Neptune is angered by this and asks why they would think that SpongeBob's would be any better. He tastes SpongeBob's Krabby Patty and finds it to be delicious. Neptune regurgitates the patty and eats it again, saying "I think I'd like to try it a second time," disgusting the audience in the process.

As the episode draws to a close, SpongeBob is declared the winner, but when he finds out that his friends cannot come with him to Atlantis, he tearfully refuses to go to Atlantis, and instead arranges for King Neptune to be a trainee under SpongeBob at the Krusty Krab, teaching him that "perfect Patties are made with love, not magic."
