Chapter 3

Luffy and Koby arrive at an island with a Marine base, where a man named Roronoa Zoro is being held prisoner. Despite the fact that Zoro is seen as being a demon, Luffy is insistent on having him on his crew, and goes to meet him. There, he and Koby meet Rika, a young girl that Zoro protected, causing him to be imprisoned.

The Vow Eternal

Introducing Pirate Hunter Zoro

Out at sea, Koby and Luffy are discussing Luffy's decision to recruit Zoro. Sometime later, they arrive at the Marine base Zoro is being held at. Luffy is surprised that they actually arrived, and Koby points out that these are the basics of navigation. Koby points out that Luffy can not just float around out at sea and that he must find a navigator soon. Luffy then says they should go eat.

At a restaurant, when Koby and Luffy discuss parting ways, Luffy mentions Zoro's name with shocking results from the other customers. When Koby mentions the name of the Marine in charge of the base, Morgan, the same effect occurs. In the street Koby comments on the reactions for the villagers here in the town, understanding why they reacted out of fear for Zoro due to his reputation, but not Morgan's name.

At the Marine base, after Luffy climbs up the wall to see Zoro, he climbs up another part of the wall to get a better view of someone he saw in the base. Koby also climbs up, but falls down again out of fear after sighting Zoro. Zoro offers the two the head of a bounty carrier if they will free him due to him going without food for 9 days.

As they talk with Zoro, Rika suddenly appears next to them as she climbs using a ladder, hushing them to be quiet. Rika climbs over the wall; Koby beckons her to come back as she walks towards Zoro. She offers him some onigiri since he has not eaten in several days. Zoro refuses and tells her to go away.

Just then, Morgan's son, Helmeppo, appears with a few Marines and starts mocking Zoro. He snatches the rice balls from Rika and eats one of them. However, he soon spits it out due to the fact she made them using sugar instead of salt. He knocks them to the ground and stomps on them, much to Koby's shock at seeing someone affiliated with the Marines do such a cruel thing. She cries, lamenting on how she worked hard to make them. Helmeppo then points out the law made by his father, which states that anyone who assists a prisoner will also be found guilty of the crimes the prisoner has committed. Helmeppo says that since she is a child, she will be let off the hook. He then orders one of the Marines to toss her over the wall. When he refuses, he reminds them who his father is and the Marine throws her over the wall, forcing Luffy to catch her. Helmeppo continues to mock Zoro, but Zoro remains strong about his situation.

After Helmeppo is gone, Luffy talks to Zoro about joining his crew. Zoro states that he will not join a pirate crew and become a criminal as he has his own dream to follow. After they finish talking, Zoro asks Luffy to give him the rice balls to eat despite the state they are now in. He then tells Luffy to tell Rika that he ate them all and that they were tasty.

Later, Luffy explains how Zoro ate the rice balls and enjoyed them to Rika. Koby is surprised at how considerate Zoro was, despite the reputation he holds. She explains that Zoro is not a bad person and that he was arrested for killing Helmeppo's pet wolf, Soro, while defending her from him, as Soro was running wild, terrorizing the town at the time. As Rika finishes explaining the story, Helmeppo appears bragging about going back on his promise to Zoro and says that he plans on having him killed in three days. Luffy hits him out of anger and after Helmeppo runs away, Luffy decides Zoro is joining his crew.

Short Mission 1

At the Forger home, Anya is playing with her stuffed animals: Director Chimera and the new Penguin she got from the aquarium. They introduce each other as Director Chimera welcomes Penguin to their secret agency, "P2." Director Chimera instructs Anya to bring the offering, which is a peanut. They split it so they can each eat half of it to show that Penguin is officially a member. Since they are stuffed animals, they cannot eat, so Anya eats both halves. Director Chimera welcomes Penguin as "Agent Penguinman" and instructs Anya to give him a tour of the secret lair.

Anya starts by taking him to the living room, which she calls the control room, saying it is where she gets intel from watching cartoons on television. She introduces Loid as "Agent Papa," an elite agent who can do anything, and Yor as "Agent Mama," who is good at fighting but not much else. She tells Penguinman that they are her best operatives. She continues the tour by showing him the bathroom, saying it is where you heal your injuries from fighting. Then she shows him her bedroom, where she does her homework.

Finally, she brings him to the most secret place, her parents' room. She tells him that he needs to brace himself since he will not leave alive after seeing the secrets it holds. Before she can open the door, Loid grabs her and sternly tells her she is not allowed to go there without permission. Anya begins to cry, and Loid claims that it is for her protection, which Yor agrees with. Although, really, both just want to hide the tools for their secret jobs.

Anya tells them that she hates them and is going to run away. Loid fears for the fate of Operation Strix, so he picks up her Penguin toy and starts speaking for him. As the Penguin, he tells her that for the sake of world peace, she needs to stop crying. He tells her they could go on a mission, which Yor, now playing along by holding a robot, agrees to. Anya instructs them to follow her because bad guys have infiltrated the candy shop on Second Street. They follow her with the penguin and robot toys, which garners the attention of several onlookers. Loid looks upset because, as a spy, he does not want to attract attention. Loid and Yor buy Anya a treat from the shop, which makes her happy again, relieving Loid of his stress.

He once ruled where the feeble gods of Earth rule now, and where they now rule he will rule again. For his hand is at their throats, and they see him not. After summer is winter, and after winter, summer. He waits patient and potent, for the stars to be right.

There they make ready for the time when they will liberate their master from his long sleep with their prayers. Great Cthulhu will awaken to bring the whole of the earth under his sway once more and to teach man new ways to shout and kill.

Iä! Iä! Cthulhu fhtagn!

The old gods will fall before him as he shatters the chains of reason, and commands lunacy to rush forth upon the world. Kings will be made mad, the mad will become kings and not even the dead will be spared his wrath.

Iä! Iä! Cthulhu fhtagn!

The stars are right. Cthulhu rises.

Iä! Iä! Cthulhu fhtagn!

Heir of Raven Court

Orphea's upbringing was lonely, but she found comfort and connection with ancestral magic. Orphea's mother Aleen left the family early in Orphea's life, fearing what would happen if her father Oberon, Raven Lord, tapped into the Dark Nexus. Oberon promised Orphea not to tap into this power, but he broke this promise, pushing Orphea away.

Later her father sends out Knights to find her.

While Deckard Cain wanders around the forests of Dragon Shire, he is attacked by those knights. Orphea joins the clash and helps Cain defeating the knights. Deckard Cain and Orphea team up to find a solution for the Dark Nexus threat raised by the Raven Lord. They come to Raena the Lady of Thorns and Realm Lord of Dragon Shire, for help and warn her about the danger coming. Raena calls on her greatest allies from across the lands and marches with them forward to battle the Raven Lord and his champions in Alterac Pass.

Later Orphea witnessed her father defeating the Lady of Thorns and causing the fall of King's Crest. Vowing to stop her father from hurting anyone else, she chose to rise up against him and become a hero in the Nexus.

After returning to Raven Court, Orphea confronted her father outside his tower. The two came to blows, and while he declared himself to be beyond Orphea's powers of "dead magic," she managed to strike his singularity. In the midst of battle, they engaged in telepathic communication, the Raven Lord explaining that there had to be order, that without it, everything would be lost. He disappeared back to his tower, his daughter declaring that she would never stop fighting him.

The Heisei Holmes

平成のホームズ

At a party in a mansion, high school detective Shinichi Kudo solves the murder of the host's wife for Inspector Megure: the wheelchair-bound host is the killer and his broken leg healed weeks ago. The next day, the newspapers and TV reporters proclaim Shinichi's latest success, but his childhood friend Ran Mouri is upset at him for once again taking business away from her father, a private detective. She reminds him of his promise to take her to Tropical Land, since she won her karate tournament.

When they go, Shinichi spends a lot of time talking about his idol, Sherlock Holmes, and even deduces that a woman in line with them for a roller coaster is a gymnast using Holmes's classic observation style. This focus on Holmes upsets Ran a little, as she was looking forward to a day with just Shinichi. On the roller coaster, a man named Kishida is mysteriously beheaded in the tunnel. The suspects are the victim's girlfriend Aiko, their friends Hitomi (the gymnast) and Hitomi's friend, and two mysterious men in black. After Inspector Megure and the police arrive, they discover a bloody knife in Aiko's bag and arrest her.

However, Shinichi explains that a woman wouldn't have the strength to decapitate someone with just a knife. He then explains that the killer used an object like a purse or a backpack to escape the ride restraints and wrap a wire around the victim's head while in the darkness of the Mystery Coaster's tunnel. After tying the wire around the victim's head the killer tossed a hook attached to the other end onto the roller coaster's track, beheading the victim using the coaster's speed and movement.

Shinichi concludes the murderer is Hitomi, as her expertise as a gymnast makes this feat possible. Shinichi proves her guilt through two crucial pieces of evidence:

Hitomi's pearl necklace (the murder weapon) is missing after the end of the ride.

Hitomi has a tear-trail on her face that runs horizontally, which is impossible unless she were crying during the course of the ride.

Hitomi breaks down and admits that Kishida was her boyfriend in college, but he dumped her for Aiko, so she decided to kill him at the same place where they had their first date.

While consoling Ran, who was upset by the crime, Shinichi sees one of the men in black run by and decides to follow him. He tells Ran to go home without him and Ran has a strange feeling she will never see him again, but cannot run after him because her shoelace breaks. Shinichi spies on the man in black making a blackmail transaction with a company president. With Shinichi distracted by the scene, the other man in black hits him from behind and knocks him nearly unconscious. Many cops remain in the area, so the men in black force-feed Shinichi a "new poison" that purportedly leaves no trace behind in the body to provide a cause of death. After they depart, Shinichi's body begins to steam and feel like it's burning; his last thought before finally losing consciousness is of Ran. When he awakens, he has been found by park security guards who refer to him as a "boy". The last panel reveals that Shinichi now has the body of a 6 year old.
